Why I Walk

I will be walking for myself, my daughters and countless other women/babies who have had their lives affected by Preeclampsia. I am walking in honor of those who have lost their lives to Preeclampsia. I had severe preeclampsia during my last pregnancy. My water broke at 36 weeks and I was rushed in for an emergency c-section after the nurse was unable to find my daughter's heartbeat. After my surgery, my blood pressure was in the stroke/heart attack range. I was on the max dosage of medicines the doctors could give me and because of that, I had to have my heart monitored in the ICU. I lost vision in both of my eyes and function of my kidneys. It was days before actually seeing what my daughter looked like! As I was going through this, my 36 week old 4 pounder was in the NICU. I spent over a week in the hospital after giving birth and my daughter was in the NICU for 2 weeks. Luckily, she was only in the NICU to help maintain her temperature and to gain weight. Regardless, one of the hardest things I had to do, was leave her there. I cried everyday until she came home. Those 2 weeks were the hardest times of my life but I thank God everyday for getting us through it.
