Why I Walk

Someday in the future, when a pregnant patient starts to have leg swelling and high blood pressure at 21 weeks of gestation like I did- when they draw the labs "just to make sure everything is okay", and the labs start showing high kidney and liver numbers and high protein in the urine and low platelet counts, when she is unexpectedly diagnosed with severe early onset preeclampsia, I hope her doctors are able to offer an effective treatment that does not include early delivery. I walk in memory of my daughter, Julia, and with the hope that more women and babies will be survivors of preeclampsia.
