Here at NYU Langone, we are a family, especially in the department of OB/GYN, with Antoinette “Toni” Lavacca as our fearless leader. When Alexis, Toni’s daughter, became pregnant,  we were on our toes while taking care of her pregnancy, as we are with all our patients.  Our office sank into sadness and even despair when Alexis was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and had to undergo an emergency c-section at 25 weeks. While Lincoln Reed Gaspard was a beacon of light and hope for us at NYU Langone Huntington Medical Group, Department of OB/GYN, his light only shone for 29 days.

As an employee of NYU Langone and a medical professional who overlooked the care of Alexis, I can say that even with all the precautions and care for her, pre-eclampsia was still too dangerous. It is an illness that needs more attention and ways to defeat it. We should come together to bring it down and work together to raise awareness. One life lost is too many. We love you, Lincoln; you are our family forever!
