Our two sons have hemophilia, a bleeding disorder that causes them to bleed longer than normal and can bleed more easily with certain normal activities.  For example, our youngest son hyperextended his knee while kicking a ball  and got a knee joint bleed.  Thankfully, with two doses of intravenous infusion of his factor (the factor protein that is deficient in hemophilia), his bleeding resolved and his normal joint function returned. 

We choose our team name, Wonderfully Made, because we believe God knew Hayden and Declan even before they were born, and He created them as wonderful, special and unique individuals. We walk to educate the community about bleeding disorders and to raise funds vital for improving the quality of life of those affected. Bleeding Disorders Foundation of NC does a fantastic job of using the funds raised to greatly benefit members through education, advocacy, resources, and programs.  By using funds to provide for needs such as medical IDs, seatbelt straps, and gas card assistance for transportation to /from treatment centers (just to name a few), BDFNC supports their members in invaluable ways. 

Caring for someone with a bleeding disorder and living with a bleeding disorder is often very overwhelming at times with the high cost of medicine, loss of time at work/school due to injury, navigating the healthcare system, and educating school staff.  BDFNC plans educational programs to address these concerns, and the chance to gather with other individuals going through similar experiences is very helpful and encouraging.
