"My love for reading has been there as long as I can remember. As a child I truly loved
books for the magic of them. They took you places, whether it be a fantasy place or a
country across the world. I was so enamored by it all. I loved going to the local library and
spending time finding the perfect books to read. I even smelled them. If they smelled
good, they were a definite yes! lol!
I have always seen reading as a way to explore things I could never imagine as well as a way
to expand the knowledge I needed and wanted to do whatever I wanted. I grew up in a
single parent household with my mother and sister. Our mom worked a lot and we were
often at a babysitter's home or at times with our Grammy, both of which were wonderful
for us. However, many of my friends at school were wealthy and we were not. They often
got to experience the world much more than I did so reading was my way of exploring the
world.
I share my love of reading for fun and to grow as a person with my students all the time.
When I read to them, I read as if I am a character in the book always hoping to pull them
in so they, too, learn to love reading."
