In a few sentences, describe your connection to U2FP, why you chose to run in support of U2FP, and whether you have a personal connection to spinal cord injury and paralysis:
My first connection to U2FP began at my former workplace, the Herman-Darrow Lab, where Dr. Darrow was leading a groundbreaking spinal cord stimulation trial (E-STAND) partially funded by U2FP. But my second and strongest tie to this incredible organization is through my roommate Jake, a U2FP advocate manager who lives with a spinal cord injury. I’m running for him and others like him, and to help shine a spotlight on the need for research and the critical funding required to make it happen.
Is this your first marathon/race? If not, what others have you completed?
This will be my first 10-mile race—and a big leap from my previous personal best of five miles in 60 minutes! I’m pacing myself with grace (and maybe a little grit). Until now, my racing resume has been all about fun runs like the Hot Cider Hustle and the Rainbow Run 5K, so this is my chance to push further!
What do you crave after a long run?
A good lie down and a beer. ?
Do you listen to anything when you train or race? If yes, what?
Absolutely! I listen to everything from post-hardcore to gay pop! Some of my recent favorites include La Dispute, Doechii, and COBRA.
What are you most excited and/or nervous about for the marathon?
I’m thrilled to see how far I can push myself, though admittedly, my ‘race face’ (which resembles a ripe strawberry) might suggest otherwise! Bring on the challenge!
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time, I’m either orchestrating chaos as a D&D Dungeon Master, (barely) surviving co-op games with friends, diving into obscure anime or film gems, or giving my screen-weary eyes a break with a physical book. When I’m not gaming or buried in a story, you’ll find me at the bouldering gym, clinging to colorful holds while pretending I’m not acutely aware of gravity.
