Please help me in supporting the 2025 Capital Area Humane Society’s Walk for the Animals.

This year I am raising money in memory of my beloved dog, Smoochie. He came to CAHS in 2010 with several other dogs that were rescued from a hoarding situation. At first, he was afraid of everyone and everything, even scared to go outside. But the day I took Smoochie home to foster him, I knew he was part of my family. He instantly made friends with my two dogs. And though he wasn’t really sure about the cats he soon began snuggling up with them. Thanks to his new doggy siblings, Smoochie soon learned the joys of just being a dog. He learned to play with toys, run around in the yard, go for long walks, sleep in the bed and how to give me just the right look to get an extra treat. He quickly mastered house training and voice commands like shake, sit, stay. Not only did Smoochie transpire into a loving, devoted companion, he helped other dogs I fostered over the years by teaching them the same things he had learned. Smoochie passed away last year at almost fifteen years old and not a day goes by that I don't miss him. But thanks to CAHS, Smoochie was given the chance to find his forever home and we were able to spend many wonderful years together.

Every day, animals like Smoochie arrive at the doors of the Capital Area Humane Society with nothing more than hope for a better future. CAHS is there to take these animals in and provide them with food, shelter, medical care, and love, just when they need it most.

With no state or federal funding, and no affiliation with any other humane organizations, it is solely the support of the community that keeps CAHS going.
