I was heavily involved at CJ for over 12 years - as a student, performer, student coach, and community member. I loved performing and taking classes, but some of the longest lasting skills I learned at CJ have been from my student coaching. I would like to share a memory from when I used to coach the toddlers classes at Circus every Saturday morning:
I love teaching the toddlers classes! I love watching them grow and become more independent as the session goes on. It is truly rewarding to gain their trust and I always feel very proud when I coax a little one into a new skill and feeling comfortable in a new environment. They are just the cutest and they remind me how much of a difference I make as an individual in the community. One remarkable anecdote was when there was only one student in flying trapeze class, so the coaches asked if I wanted to try some swings! While I was up on the trapeze, my toddler class had gathered and were all sitting on the floor staring intently up at me. Once I landed safely in the net, they all gave me a round of applause, completely unprompted by any adults. It reminds me that as a student coach and older community member, I have the power to set the tone for future generations and I am a role model for the younger students. At Circus Juventas, there is so much support coming from the people surrounding you -students and adults alike- and there is always someone here to cheer you on - even a group of two-year-olds.
