PILLAR 2
HEALTH, RECOVERY, AND INJURY PREVENTION
Wrestling places significant physical demands on developing athletes. Training, competition, travel, weight management, injuries, and limited recovery time can affect an athlete’s health, performance, and ability to continue participating in the sport.
This pillar helps provide access to support related to:
• Injury prevention and physical well-being
• Recovery education and resources
• Rehabilitation and return-to-activity support
• Healthy training and recovery practices
• Long-term athlete health and development
When athletes receive appropriate guidance and recovery support, they are better equipped to understand their bodies, train responsibly, respond to physical setbacks, and continue pursuing their goals safely.
OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH RJ SWINGLE
Through our partnership with RJ Swingle, Mat Angels is helping expand access to health, recovery, injury-prevention education, and physical wellness resources for committed young wrestlers.
RJ brings professional knowledge and a whole-athlete approach that can help wrestlers improve recovery, support healthy movement, protect their physical well-being, and make informed decisions about their long-term development.
PILLAR 4
NUTRITION AND PERFORMANCE SUSTAINABILITY
OUR PARTNERSGIP WITH CHAMPION ATHLETES
Nutrition directly affects an athlete’s strength, energy, concentration, recovery, and overall performance.
For wrestlers, proper nutrition is especially important because athletes may also face the demands of training schedules, competition preparation, travel, and weight management throughout the season.
This pillar helps athletes and their families better understand:
• Proper fueling for training and competition
• Healthy and responsible weight management
• Hydration and recovery nutrition
• Sustaining energy throughout demanding schedules
• Building habits that support long-term performance
The goal is not simply to help an athlete prepare for one match. It is to help build a healthier and more sustainable approach to athletic development.
PILLAR 5
MINDSET AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
STRONG BODIES COMPETE. STRONG MINDS ENDURE.
The toughest opponent is not always standing across the mat.
Talent and training can take an athlete far. A strong mindset helps an athlete continue moving forward when pressure, setbacks, self-doubt, fear of failure, and expectations become difficult to carry.
This pillar helps athletes develop:
• Confidence under pressure
• Focus and emotional control
• Discipline and personal accountability
• Resilience after losses, injuries, or setbacks
• Healthy responses to fear and self-doubt
• Leadership skills on and off the mat
Mindset development helps athletes approach competition with greater confidence, respond constructively to adversity, and remain committed to their long-term goals.
OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH WRESTLING MINDSET
Through our partnership with Wrestling Mindset, led by Gene and Jeff Zannetti and supported by a nationwide network of coaches and programs, Mat Angels is helping young wrestlers develop the confidence, discipline, focus, and resilience needed to succeed on and off the mat.
Athlete submissions are already showing a real need for mindset support. Committed female and male wrestlers are asking for guidance that can help them regain confidence, manage pressure, overcome adversity, and continue pursuing their goals.
