Supporting a Great Cause

Friends of DACC is deeply personal to me. It's the organization I call home.

People often think we only help the dogs and cats in the shelter...and, it's true - that is a vital part of what we do. We work every day to make their stay as comfortable as possible while helping them find loving homes. But we also help pets stay with the people who already love them. Sometimes all a family needs is a little support: a bag of pet food, a free spay or neuter surgery, vaccines, or other resources. Those small acts can make the difference between keeping a family together or having to say goodbye.

I'm raising money for Jessica and her 130-pound Rottweiler, Roxie, who was adopted from DACC. Every month, Jessica takes time off work to come to Detroit Pet People, where we always share great conversation while she picks up food for Roxie. Every year, she faithfully brings Roxie to one of our free vaccine clinics so that she can get the preventative care she needs to stay healthy. Jessica loves Roxie deeply, and I'm grateful to play a small part in keeping them together.

I'm raising money for Claitu, a cat who needed to be neutered. We were able to provide his neuter, vaccines, and microchip. His dad was so thankful that for the next year, he came to Detroit Pet People every month and donated a bag of dog food to help someone else.

I'm raising money for Julien, who came to Detroit Pet People for dog food but gave his bag away to another resident because he thought they needed it more. Afterward, he quietly told me he'd been out of food for days, had lost his job, and was terrified he'd have to surrender his four dogs because he couldn't feed them. We made sure to give him food for all of them, and he was able to keep his family together.

I'm raising money for Sam, a sweet kitty whose owner was told he couldn't keep him in his apartment unless he was neutered. We got Sam in right away, and they were able to stay together.

I'm raising money for the 921 dogs and cats we spayed and neutered in 2025 so we can help even more families this year and prevent even more unwanted litters.

I'm raising money for Rowdy, Cade, Jade, Scarface, Honolulu, Sir, Gabby, Isopede, Glory, and so many other shelter dogs who have left permanent paw prints on my heart. For all the ones who haven't walked through our doors yet. For the dogs like Maple and Sunny, my own DACC dogs.

If you'd like to be part of this beautiful work for shelter pets, for families doing everything they can, and for the pets and people who love them, I'd be so grateful if you'd consider making a donation. It would mean the world to me, and even more to the pets and people whose lives you'll help change.

Thank you!
