The last day I felt Robert move was June 11, 2021. I was 27 weeks and 6 days pregnant when I went in late that afternoon, expecting reassurance and instead hearing the words no parent ever imagines hearing, especially while waiting for their first child. “There is no heartbeat. I’m so sorry.” What followed felt both unbearably slow and impossibly fast, as time seemed to stop and race forward all at once. On June 13, 2021, I gave birth to my beautiful son, Robert Lee Bails.
All of my time was spent in a bereavement suite made possible by No Foot Too Small, and I cannot express how meaningful that space was for us. Having a private, peaceful room away from the sounds and activity of the maternity ward allowed us to grieve, reflect, and hold our son with dignity and love. In such an unimaginable moment, this space brought comfort, privacy, and a sense of calm when we needed it most.
