Nearly 25 years ago, I got involved in raising money to help end childhood cancer through Ride for Kids, a motorcycle charity ride benefiting The Pediatric Brain Tumor foundation. As a parent, I couldn’t imagine hearing that diagnosis for my kids, and every story I heard broke my heart.
Since then I have watched friends get the devastating news that their child had cancer. I watched as they navigated treatment plans, hospital stays, and tried to help the best I could as they tried to support their child who has fighting a fight they were too young to understand.
Knowledge is power, and it is a power that is needed if we are ever going to be able to end cancer. Dragon Masters' support of technology like CAVATICA, a real-time information sharing platform (almost like Facebook for researchers!) and Noah's G.I.F.T.S. (Giving Initiative for Treatment Support) Program, which helps fund travel expenses for families participating in clinical trials far from their home, helps get that knowledge to the people that need it the most.
