Why I run for Team Fired Up

I am excited to announce that I am using my first attempt at running the Dopey Challenge to fundraise for the Dragon Master Initiative! I have always had so much respect for charity runners and I cannot wait to embark on this exciting (and slightly scary) journey. 

I love the name of this organization because it perfectly captures how I feel about childhood illness--like slaying a dragon. 

I do not have firsthand experience with serious childhood illness. While I do have a kiddo at home, we have been blessed with overall good health (and access to healthcare). We have had the occasional RSV and seasonal cold, but her most serious childhood illness was baby jaundice, where she lived on bili lights 24/7. You can bet that during her 10 day treatment, I had very little food, sleep, or peace. Parenting can be physically, mentally, and spiritually challenging. I cannot imagine also battling a chronic childhood illness.

My goal with this fundraising effort is to use something that I love to bring a glimmer of joy and hope to another parent in the trenches. We may be fighting very different battles, but I hope that I can help in this very small way.
