This coming February, I'm running a 10k and a half marathon on consecutive days to help support access to state-of-the-art medical research that can help physicians treat childhood brain tumors.

Because these runs are part of runDisney's Princess Half Marathon Weekend, I will be running the half dressed as "Seen Better Days Tinkerbell." I will have another costume for the 10k, to be decided later.    

Here is why I'm doing this: a lot of the research that is done to help fight cancer (and other diseases) is paywalled -- just like many newspapers, magazines, and TV services, you need to pay to have access. 

When you're talking about state-of-the art information about the latest scientific research that can be used to save lives, this is a big deal. It's an even bigger deal when that research relates to childrens' cancer. As a member of Team Fired Up, I am helping raise money for something called the Dragon Master Initiative. Dragon Master works to make cancer research avaialble to everyone who needs to be able to have access to it.
