Running in Honor of My Mom
Hi, I’m Sam, and this year I’m running the Disney Springtime Surprise Challenge for a reason that’s deeply personal.
When I was 21, my mother was diagnosed with cancer. She was only 49. I moved back home and spent my days taking her to chemotherapy and radiation treatments an hour away, then going to work, while my dad cared for her at night. After surgery, we believed she was cancer-free — until the cancer returned. My mom passed away at 50 in May of 2014, surrounded by family.
Like so many people, I have a story about someone I love fighting cancer. This is mine.
That’s why I chose to run and raise funds for the Dragon Master Initiative. I’m running in honor of my mom and to help support a future where fewer families have to experience this kind of loss.
Why This Matters
This journey is about resilience, courage, and continuing to move forward even when things are hard. Every mile I train and every step I take on race weekend is for my mom — and for others still fighting their own battles.
My Goal
I’m working to raise $2,500, and every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference.
Thank you for supporting me, this cause, and the reason behind every mile.
