I'm excited to lead a Honduran Mountain Medical Team on my 10th trip with Friends of Barnabas (FOB) to serve remote mountain communities with medical, dental, and vision care.
These communities aren't just rural. They're isolated farming settlements accessible only through difficult terrain, where families work the land to sustain themselves with minimal infrastructure beyond an elementary school. Growing up on a farm, I recognize the challenges these Honduran neighbors face daily. This mission lets me serve families facing the agricultural and rural challenges I recognize from my own upbringing, but without the infrastructure available to most rural Americans.
Since 2000, Friends of Barnabas has deployed medical teams to provide preventative health education and healthcare services where access remains critically limited. Our Mountain Medical Teams serve children and families who must navigate challenging mountain paths to reach even basic services. We provide vitamins, fluoride, and anti-parasite medications while identifying children with special needs requiring extensive care. FOB staff ensure ongoing education and community support long after our teams depart, creating sustainable empowerment rather than temporary relief. We deliver medications most Americans keep at home. Tylenol for aches, cough syrup for sick children. These remain impossible to obtain in these remote locations.
Our team goal is $11,500 to cover medications and medical supplies for five communities, plus individual travel contributions of $2,250 per team member.
