Promise Walk Wherever has been apart of my life for the past 6 years and I am so grateful for this organization and that we have a walk here in the twin cities! Preeclampsia isn’t “just high blood pressure.” It’s a silent monster that can turn a normal pregnancy into a full blown emergency in the blink of an eye. One minute you’re making plans and the next your vision’s blurry, you can’t feel your legs, your hands are shaking, the doctors are talking about early delivery to not only save your life but your baby too. This was us in 2019 and 2022, giving birth to our daughters early and both very traumatically with severe features. The scary swelling, vision loss, horrific headaches, sky high blood pressure readings that don’t even make sense… This is not “just pregnancy symptoms,” Please please please listen to your gut and if you have to like me, beg for testing, advocate for yourself like a mother, you know your body best. Preeclampsia doesn’t care how healthy you are. It doesn’t care how far along you are. It doesn’t come with a warning label. It comes with intense fear. ER visit after visit. Hospital stays. Magnesium drips. Isolation. CT scans, NICU stays. Emergency inductions. The list I could put together and the Trauma I never saw coming. Like many of us here, you already know the war your body went through. If you’re going through it now, you are never alone. This isn’t rare. It’s real. It’s serious. And it needs to be talked about WAY more. Preeclampsia traumatized us for a long time but it did not steal our joy, it did not take away our two beautiful girls and I am here, a 2x survivor. Every mom who has faced this terrible disease deserves to be seen, heard and validated. This is why I walk.
