I walk because I nearly died due to complications of post partum preeclampsia. By the time I got to the emergency room, I was already in heart failure. I knew that preeclampsia was a risk throughout pregnancy, but I was not familiar with how serious it could become postpartum when you had no issues throughout or directly after your pregnancy. 3 days after I was discharged from the hospital I began to feel extremely tired and heavy and swollen. It almost felt like serious anxiety, and just feeling weight on my chest… Little did I know that feeling was retained fluid. When my doula called to check in on me and I told her what was going on she recommended I take my blood pressure which at the time was 180/101. So off to the emergency room, I went ...where I stayed for the next week Without my newborn because she wasn't allowed to stay with me. It was a very scary experience and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
