We will be running the TCS London Marathon on April 26, 2026 to empower children diagnosed with cancer and their families. Cancer is personal for our family, so it is an honor to run in support of Camp One Step. We would love your support.
Our daughter Stella was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor at age 7 in July 2023. The tumor's removal was complicated by posterior fossa syndrome and bilateral facial paralysis, which required her to completely relearn how to eat, drink, speak, think, and move. We learned quickly that it's not just making it through the cancer diagnosis and treatment, but it's about all the effects of cancer and treatment... and how to live and thrive with them. On her road to recovery, she received radiation and chemotherapy in fall 2023 and spring 2024. After missing second grade, Stella returned to school and completed third grade in June 2025. As a fourth grader, she continues to do speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy after school three to four times per week. She also does gymnastics and swimming!
Stella is strong. She inspires our family, her support team, friends, and everyone else who knows her. Her motto is: "Tired is not a word I use."
(We'll have this in mind as we train through the brutal winter and during the race when we start questioning our life's choices!)
Camp One Step is an organization that operates camps and other recreational and educational experiences for children who have been diagnosed with cancer. One Step Programs aim to cure the spirit by providing an environment of hope, strength, and empowerment. Camp One Step also offers virtual camps so they can serve more children than ever before--even in their hospital beds.
Along with Stella, and her little brother, Jake, the four of us attended Camp One Step family camp in Summer 2024. This experience allowed us to meet other families who have experienced a childhood brain tumor diagnosis. Jake got to meet other children who had a shared experience with their sibling. And, Stella got to meet other children who know what it's like to have multiple surgeries, to miss school, to miss friends, to miss having hair, or to miss the ability to walk, run, and play like the other kids. Since then, Stella and Jake attended Camp One Step sibling camp in Spring 2025, and Stella went to Camp One Step overnight(!) camp (on her own!) in Summer 2025. We are so grateful to the other families we've met so far, who have shared their stories of grief and hope. We're so grateful that these Camp One Step programs exist.
Our goal is to raise $16,000, and we need your help!
Here are some examples of what your donation can do:
$1,500 = Support a Camper
The average cost to send a camper to camp is $1,500. Help us let kids have FUN by donating now!
$1,000 = Send a family to Family Camp
This is the approximate amount to send a family of four to Family Camp where they all can be a part of the camp fun.
$500 = Campership for a digital program
For our friends who can't attend in-person camp but want to join from home or from their hospital room, we hold a number of digital programs throughout the year. This is the average amount it costs to send a kid to our digital Connected programs.
$250 = Provide medical and health supplies
Around 70% of our campers need some type of healthcare while attending our camps and programs. Help us ensure the safety and comfort of our campers!
$100 = Provide a camper care package
Help us send care packages for our digital programs so campers can have fun from anywhere - even a hospital bed.
$50 = Provide art and crafts supplies
From tie dye to STEM projects, this is the approximate amount to provide supplies for creative fun.
We hope you will consider supporting our training for London as we raise funds to support Camp One Step and children diagnosed with cancer.
