I’m Champers, a senior studying Electrical Engineering. I am incredibly grateful to have been selected as a rider for Texas4000 next summer. I am preparing to push myself physically and mentally to the absolute limit, knowing this is only a strength cancer patients must fight with. Let’s help eliminate the need for this battle together.

Why I'm Riding

I'm riding for hope – hope that others don't have to go through this fight with cancer. 

There's a special kind of somber that persists when you’re clinging on to hope watching your loved ones engage in this battle against cancer. I was only in middle school when doctors first discovered tumors in my grandmother’s lungs. There were almost no signs of trouble at the time, and the diagnosis terrified our family. Still, the cancer was in its early stages, and we had hope that she could win this fight. Our faith was put into the medical system, and surgery went smoothly to remove the tumors. We thought our family had won this battle.

Two years later, the doctors didn’t just find one tumor in her lung; the cancer had came back even stronger and spread all over her body. We could only watch as her physical well-being was slowly drained from her. Still, we clung onto hope that she could live to tell the tale. Over the course of just a few months, she went from a relatively healthy individual who loved to go on walks in the park near her apartment to completely bedridden. None of us could even imagine the pain she was going through. Despite the strong fight my grandmother and the medical community put up, she passed in early 2020.

I have never really had an opportunity like Texas4000 to personally start fighting cancer. The battle for my grandmother may be over, but my hope that cancer can be completely extinguished lives on. Come join me in this battle and help fundraise for a better, healthier tomorrow for everyone.
