My grandpa Eddie was a sailor—and my namesake. After a lifetime of teaching as a sociology professor, he abandoned his life in academia to captain a sailboat in the virgin islands for a year. A few years later, he passed away at the age of 47 due to glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. 15 years later I was born. Because of cancer, I never got to meet my grandfather—the person who's adventurous spirit gave me my name.
I am riding for Texas 4000 for my grandpa Eddie. Cancer has impacted millions of families and communities all across the world, and in riding for Texas 4000, I hope to be able to spread cancer awareness and help fund cancer research to prevent any more families from losing the ones they love. As a member of Texas 4000, an organization who's mission is to "cultivate student leaders and engage communities in the fight against cancer," I am eager to engage with local communities and act as a beacon of hope for those affected by cancer. As I train alongside my teammates over the next year, I look forward to cultivating my leadership skills and building relationships growing physically, mentally, and emotionally along the way.
But I can't complete my mission alone! Any donation—big or small—can help in the fight against cancer. Your financial contributions will go towards cancer research grants, cancer support services, and supplies needed for the summer ride. Your support is invaluable, and I hope you will consider donating!
Here's how you can help:
- Donate: Contribute whatever you can. No amount is too small!
- Spread the Word: Share my fundraising page with your friends, family, and social networks. Let’s spread awareness so we can raise more!
Thank you for standing by me in this effort. Your support means the world to me!
