I'm raising money for Texas 4000
My journey with cancer began unexpectedly in middle school, babysitting for my neighbor, a young mother battling breast cancer while raising her toddler daughter. What started as a simple act of helping became a profound lesson in human resilience. I watched her transform from a vibrant mom to a determined warrior, her spirit unbreakable and her love for her daughter a constant light even in her darkest moments.
This experience planted a seed that blossomed into purpose as I pursued my studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Now, as a biology major on the pre-med track, I've found myself drawn to understanding the disease that touches so many people’s lives so deeply. My academic path has given me scientific foundations, while my personal experiences have shown me the human face of cancer.
My academic journey led me to conduct breast cancer metastasis research at UT Southwestern. There, among microscopes and cell cultures, I explored cancer's biological mechanisms, gaining technical insight into how this disease operates. Yet the most meaningful education happened when I stepped beyond the lab bench to shadow oncologists in clinical settings. I witnessed patients arrive with fear in their eyes, carrying the weight of their diagnosis, only to leave with renewed hope after compassionate conversations with their doctors. Through these experiences, I've come to understand that cancer is far more than mutated cells or clinical data—it's a human journey marked by courage, connection, and community.
My experiences fuel my commitment to Texas 4000. Each of the 4,000 miles represents our collective determination to support patients, fund research, and bring hope to everyone affected by this disease.
When I pedal to Alaska in Summer 2026, I'll carry with me my neighbor's quiet strength, the faces of patients I've met, and the names of those affected by cancer. This ride honors their journeys and supports the research that will one day transform how we prevent, treat, and cure cancer.
I'd be honored to ride in tribute to someone special in your life. Please share their name and story with me at simali.shah@gmail.com, so I can carry their strength with me across those 4,000 miles.
Your support—whether through donation, sharing my page, or simply spreading awareness—directly impacts cancer research and patient support services. Together, we're creating a world where hope outshines fear, where community conquers isolation, and where cancer no longer defines our stories.
Join me in transforming miles into meaningful change, one pedal stroke at a time.
To Alaska and back,
Simali Shah
