About Me
Hi! My name is CC Cole, and I am a sophomore at the University of Texas at Austin majoring in Biology with a certificate in Pre-Health Professions. I’m thrilled to share that I have been selected to join the 2026 Texas 4000 for Cancer team! Texas 4000 for Cancer is a non-profit organization based at UT Austin where students commit to bike over 4,000 miles in 70 days from Austin, TX to Anchorage, AK while fundraising money for cancer research and educating others about cancer awareness. Over the next year, I’ll be training hard, fundraising, and educating others as I prepare for this life-changing experience.
Why I Ride
Cancer has touched the lives of the most influential women in mine. It is their strength, resilience, and unwavering hope during their cancer journey that inspired me to join Texas 4000 for Cancer.
I ride for my grandma Daphne, who endured a rare form of brain cancer known as oligodendrroglioma. Daphne was a breath of fresh air who beautifully carried her role as a mother, a wife, and a friend with grace and compassion during her eight year battle with cancer. Though she passed before I was born, Daphne's legacy lives on through my middle name, and her prescence walks beside me on every step of this journey.
I ride for my maternal grandma Liz, or who I know as "Nana", who valiantly faced a three-year battle with glioblastoma. Despite her unrelenting treatment, my Nana never failed to miss out on grandma activities, such as sleepovers, movie nights, and baking snickerdoodle cookies with me. Her unconditional love for her friends, family, and dogs, along with her passions for baking, tennis, and sewing, left a lasting impression on this world.
I ride for my wonderful mother Beth, who is my biggest role model and the embodiment of tenacity. During her treatment for stage 2A melanoma, my mother managed to balance school events, sports practices, and remodeling our home after the Hurricane Harvey flood. It is because of the remarkable team of doctors at MD Anderson and her charismatic, buoyant spirit that has led her to be in remission for five years now.
These three beautiful, powerful women, and so many others, are the reason I joined Texas 4000 for Cancer. With each pedal I conquer, I ride to honor them and those who are still fighting. I ride to fuel the change in cancer treatment, support innovative research for improved medicine, and support individuals in beating the battle against cancer.
