Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Greater Chattanooga, a ‘home away from home’ for families of seriously ill or injured children, is hosting their annual February Phonathon. The purpose of each call is to thank donors who have given to this cause before and ask for their continued financial support. This is the charity’s most monetarily successful event raising an average total of nearly $90,000 over the four-day duration.
Up to 24 volunteers are recruited each night to assist in making phone calls and organizing pledge forms. The Phonathon is the kick-off event for a year-long RMHC campaign called Share-A-Night that encourages donations in $66 increments to help keep families close to their sick child in the hospital. The $66 amount is how much it costs to host each family per night. With a total of 26 families, it costs over $1,700 a night to operate the House.
