For those of you that are not aware, I have been working for LAAN since late 2015 and it has been the best experience of my life. I have learned so much about the resilence of the community that I serve and feel humbled that I can be a part of helping someone through a time in their lives where they need support that is not found somewhere else.
All that being said, we function based on State grants and fundraising. As a non-profit, we are accutely aware of what is available for the underserved; and even more so: what is not available.
Not only does the AIDS walk remind the community that there is still a great need for individuals; but also that the HIV crisis is not over. While there are many new medications that allows those living with HIV/AIDS to live a medically better live than ever before......getting and maintaining access to medications and medical care is still an ongoing issue.
Any donation that you feel appropriate would be appreciated; and would go towards continuing the services we are able to offer such as: HIV Testing and Test Counseling, Medical and Non-Medical Case Management, Housing services, Early Intervention Services, Tobacco Cessation, Pantry and general emotional support.
