Hello Friends / Family / Co-workers!
I’m participating in this year’s 2025 Lighthouse for the blind Campain! I was fortunate enough to be introduced to an AMAZING nonprofit organization in the Seattle area called Lighthouse for the Blind. Lighthouse provides employment, support, and training opportunities for people who are blind, DeafBlind, and blind with other disabilities. I volunteer my time as a Foundation Board member and I've been lucky enough to participate in several employee activities, tours, educational opportunities and meetings in order to understand and better serve this community.
The Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Program at the Lighthouse provides more than just skills; it offers the gift of independence. It’s the transformative experience of learning to navigate a world that seems unfamiliar, to walk with purpose, to step into a future without barriers.
With the guidance of the expert instructors at the Lighthouse, employees can adapt and begin to feel comfortable navigating with confidence. They learn to move through bustling streets and neighborhoods, maneuver in their own homes and workspaces, and to use tools like white canes, dog guides, and other advanced technology tools. This isn’t just about physical movement - it’s about reclaiming one’s independence.
Your generosity is an essential part of this. Gifts to the O&M Program allows the Lighthouse to continue providing, adapting, and expanding this life-changing program to those who need it most. Your gift fuels the tools, the training, and the trust that empowers individuals to live on their own terms.
A gift of $125 covers the cost of a training session for someone who needs help learning a route to the bus stop, or to the grocery store. It covers the cost of working one-on-one with an instructor to develop a safe route to work, or to navigate within the workplace safely and independently. ANY donation amount is greatly appreciated.
The campaign will culminate with our Summer Garden Party on the evening of Thursday, August 7th, where folks can come on-site to the Ethel L. Dupar Fragrant Garden, located at our Seattle facility, and meet with program staff and fellow supporters to celebrate the success of our Spring Campaign! Eat some delicious food, participate in a raffle, and learn all about the programs and services available for Lighthouse employees and the greater community. Follow the “Registration” button to rsvp for the event.
And please take a few minutes to check out the Lighthouse for the Blind webpage (The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. (lhblind.org)) and serious consider helping me reach a personal goal of raising $2500 to send an individual to the DeafBlind Retreat.
