Jen's Personal Fundraising Page

I'm Jen Smith and proudly volunteer as Vice President of the Board of Directors with Seattle's Lighthouse for the Blind. This year, fundraising is focused on the Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Program. I've had the pleasure of working with this team grow my skils as a sighted guide and look forward to more as my tenure on the Board continues.

Donor Events

June 18 Movie Night Fundraiser

This year, I'm joining forces with some other board members to have some fun and host a June 18 Audio Described (AD) movie night at the Northwest Film Forum. If you donate BEFORE June 18 and can join us, R.S.V.P. on our Evite Movie Night page for complete details. Suggested donation of $20 per person.

August 7 Summer Garden Party

The other event is the August 7 Garden party at the Lighthouse for the Blind's Fragrant Garden! Attendees can enjoy hors d’oeuvres and beverages while learnning more about O&M plus all the Lighthouse programs as we celebrate the culmination of this Spring Campaign. Also, there is a fantastic raffle where people can test their luck to win tickets to sports events, local attractions, fine dining and more. These raffles ARE winnable and I can personally attest to how much fun it is to win!

More about Seattle LHB's Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Program

O&M instructors help Blind and DeafBlind people learn travel skills to safely and efficiently navigate using a range of techniques and tools including long cane, wayfinding/orientation, street crossings, public transit, GPS, electronic travel aids, guide dogs, and more.

The Lighthouse provides this training to Blind and DeafBlind employees, first focusing on orientation in the work space, and each employees’ unique commute to and from work. Services can also include general mobility skill instruction, or more specific location instruction, like a specific neighborhood, route to the store, and/or a favorite coffee shop. O&M services are designed to empower employees with independence to fully participate in employment and the community.

The program is funded through a combination of grants, coroporate contributions, foundations, service organizations Lighthouse operation funds, and individual charitable giving from generous folks like YOU. Lighthouse employees have no cost to participate.
