On May 14, 2020, my world was forever changed after receiving the devastating news that my amazing Dad had a 5 cm mass on his brain. The next day, we took him to the University of Cincinnati where he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma (GBM), the most common malignant brain tumor found in adults. Unfortunately, there is no cure for Glioblastoma and most patients only survive 12-18 months.
Dad underwent a successful craniotomy on May 20, 2020, and spent the next couple of weeks recovering in the hospital and rehabilitation facility with NO visitors due to COVID restrictions. This was just the beginning of a tough road for him and my mom. He endured one month of radiation followed by several rounds of chemo. Unfortunately, we found out the tumor grew back in May 2021, and we had to switch to a maintenance chemotherapy. We were so thankful when his neuro-oncologist presented the option in August 2021 of having the tumor removed and starting a trial at the University of Cincinnati. He underwent a second successful craniotomy on September 9, 2021. We are grateful to report that he is recovering well from the surgery.
Although I would've NEVER chosen my Dad or the rest of our family to have to go through this dreadful disease, I know that the Lord orchestrated his story and will continue to use him for His glory.
Our family is so thankful for the University of Cincinnati, and the amazing team of researchers, physicians and clinicians who dedicate themselves to finding a cure for a brain tumors.
Praising God in the middle of the storm,
