Why I Walk

My dad was diagnosed with MDS, a rare form of blood cancer, in 2020. He had a stem cell transplant in June 2022 at the Cleveland Clinic and was doing wonderfully up until this summer. Sadly, after two years of believing he was cured, we recently learned that my dad's MDS has returned and morphed into an extremely aggressive form of Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Please read a note from my dad below and consider joining us at the Move for MDS walk in Boston on October 20 or contributing to our team fundraising goal. Thank you all for your love, prayers, and support. They mean the world to my dad, our family, and me.

A Note from My Dad

Dear Friends,

The 2024 Move for MDS walk is on Sunday, October 20, at Boston Common. I want to thank all of you who participated by walking and/or donating in 2023. I am asking you to join Team Ireland again this year to raise awareness of MDS and funding for research.

This year it is more important for me than ever before, for despite my stem cell transplant in 2022, my MDS has relapsed in a form that is extremely aggressive. Without treatment, I may have only months to live. I will be starting chemotherapy shortly, which has a less than 50% chance of improving outcomes.

God willing, I will be able to participate in the MDS walk this October, and I sincerely hope that you can join my family and me on this year's walk or contribute to our team fundraising goal.

Most importantly, I appreciate your prayers for my health and my family.

With much appreciation,

Alec
