My dad passed away at 73 after battling myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a disease that changed our lives in ways we never could have prepared for. Watching someone you love go through that—while feeling how limited the options can be—is something that stays with you.
I’m running this 5K in his honor, but also with a bigger purpose. My brothers and I were deeply impacted by this disease, and no family should have to navigate MDS without better answers, better treatments, and more hope than we had.
Ricky was a friend to so many—a talented musician, semiprofessional tinkerer, and expert bullshitter. I hope our friends and family who were touched by his humor, his warm laugh, and his perfectly curmudgeonly attitude will consider donating in his memory. This disease is cruel—and we want to fight for better solutions, better research, and real progress for the people and families facing it.
If you’re able to donate, share, or even just take a moment to learn more about MDS, it means more than we can say. I’m doing this for my dad—and for every family still in the fight.
With love & gratitude - Mallory
