Paddles Up!

Dear Dream Maker,

We’ve missed you! With all the turmoil throughout 2020 so far, the shift towards ‘normalcy’ has been welcomed. That being said, we have AMAZING news! We will see you on The Red! Of course, things look a little different this summer. Although we will not be hosting our typical Dragon Boat Festivals, we still plan to get you on the water SAFELY with our friends at the Manitoba Paddling Association.

Instead of a traditional festival, we will bring together (at a distance!) a small number of Dragon Boat teams between August 10th - August 28th. Come out with your team of ten (10) - to compete in a 500 meter race or just to have fun - for two separate Dragon Boat paddling sessions.

Safety is our primary concern and Provincial Safety Measures will be in place to ensure social distancing and crowd sizing rules are followed. There will only be four (4) teams maximum attending each session. You can read our Sport Manitoba Letter of Approval here. How we’ve responded to Covid19, so far, is linked here.

We are so excited to get you and your team paddling and grateful for your support in helping make Dreams come true for some very special kids in our community. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact The Dream Factory office directly at (204) 989-4010 or email Karly at karly@thedreamfactory.ca

Thank you again for your support of The Dream Factory, and for believing in the power of a Dream come true!

See you on The Red!

ARE YOU READY TO HIT THE WATER?!

The Dream Factory is proud to partner with the Manitoba Paddling Association to host a Provincially Approved Dragon Boat UNFestival, beginning on Monday, August 10th, 2020. Dragon boating is one of Winnipeg's most loved summer events and we are excited we will be able to safely hold a smaller event this summer!

Get your team of 10 friends, family, and/or co-workers together and get ready to have fun on the water while supporting a great cause! Whether you are a long-time dragon boater or have never paddled before - these sessions are a great way to have fun and help make dreams come true for some very special kids. Teams will be guaranteed two (2) separate paddling sessions between August 10th and August 28th.

Safety is a top priority. Boats, paddles and personal floatation devices will be provided and cleaned between uses. Instruction and race supervision will be provided by the Manitoba Paddling Association. The event is approved under provincial guidelines.

The UNFestival is a fundraiser for The Dream Factory, a Winnipeg based charitable organization dedicated to fulfilling dreams for Manitoba kids who are battling life-threatening illnesses. We hope each team will try to raise $100.

The funds you raise will go directly to making dreams come true for kids who desperately need a break from hospitals, medical treatments and other challenges they will face on their journey. All funds raised stay in Manitoba.

To register by credit card, click “Sign Up Today” at the top of the page or the “Register For This Event” link to the right. If you prefer to pay for your registration by cheque, please email karly@thedreamfactory.ca.

You are helping bring dreams to life. Thank you!

Meet Beckette

Beckette (1).png

Beckette is 11 years old and lives with Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder that particularly affects the lungs and digestive system. Kids who have it are more vulnerable to repeated lung infections.

In October, Beckette contracted a Nontuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM) infection - which severely complicated his CF. He has battled many health challenges resulting in 15 long hospital stays, hundreds of medical procedures, and over 30 medications a day.

After 7 months of daily nausea, permanent hearing loss, and no major improvements in his health, Beckett stopped his NTM treatment in June. Moving forward, doctors will monitor how he does without treatment and focus on quality-of-life.

Beckett lives every day for the fullest, even cracking jokes when he is undergoing the worst side effects. He is bright, happy, and just wants to cuddle all the animals he can meet! His Dream is to snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef and dive with the sharks!

Register a team today to help make Beckette's dream come true (when safe to do so) or you can make a donation here.

About The Dream Factory

The Dream Factory is a charitable organization dedicated to fulfilling dreams for kids who are battling life-threatening illnesses. We’re unique because we’re based in Manitoba – and all of the funds we raise stay in this province to help local children. Everything we do is focused on helping sick kids and their families.

The Dream Factory relies solely on the generous support of people and businesses. Since 1983, when we were founded as The Rainbow Society, we’ve created cherished memories for more than 700 families in Manitoba.

Our mandate simply requires that a potential Dream Kid should be under the age of 18 and able to communicate their dream. We include all immediate family members in the dream and ensure that it's a memorable experience outside of the hospital environment.

On average, we fulfill approximately 30 dreams in a given year, though we have been making more and more dreams come true in recent years. We expect 2020 to be our busiest year yet!

The average cost of a dream is over $10,000.00 CAD, a cost that continues to increase with rising travel costs, a challenging U.S. dollar, and dreamers that keep getting more creative!

We couldn't do what we do without the incredible support of our donors and volunteers. Thank you for helping us bring even more dreams to life in 2020!
