Please help me and Allison support Girl Power 2 Cure in their efforts to raise funds for research for Rett Syndrome!

I am running the Disney Princess Enchanted 10K for my daughter, Allison, who was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome when she was 2 years old. This year will be my 6th year running with Team GP2C. Christopher will be running for his 4th time as a member of the team as he runs the kids 200 meter dash!

Rett Syndrome is a debilitating neurological disorder that predominantly affects females but can affect boys. It is the leading genetic cause of severe impairment in girls, brought on by a single gene mutation that leads to underproduction of an important brain protein.

Like other kids wtih Rett Syndrome, Allison was born “normal,” but without the protein missing in kids with RS, begin to lose acquired skills between 1 and 3 years old. She lost her ability to speak,  use her hands, and she now depends on her family for every part of her day. Complications of RS include seizures, sudden death in their sleep and scoliosis.

Despite their physical disabilities, girls and boys with Rett Syndrome are believed to be functioning mentally at a much higher level than previously thought. I know I see evidence of this all of the time with Allison! Amidst the mass confusion in their central nervous systems, people with RS are smart, strong, and waiting bravely for us to unlock the door to their recovery. 

Today, there is no cure. But Rett Syndrome is CURABLE! Research has proven in mouse models that once protein levels are back to normal levels, symptoms subside. There are also many treatments showing great promise! So much so that Allison is signed up to be a potential canditate for a phase III clinical trail for a drug called Trofinetide! Trofinetide has shown great promise as a potential treatment for kids with Rett Sydrome and we can't wait for her to be able to hopefully start the trial after the covid-19 shutdown concludes hopefully in late 2020!
