On Sunday, March 1, 2026  I will be plunging for my students!

Every day, I walk into my classroom and see strength, determination, and resilience that often goes unnoticed by the world. My students show up, work hard, and push through challenges that most people never have to think about. They remind me daily that ability looks different for everyone and that every person deserves opportunities, dignity, and celebration. As a teacher, I advocate for my students in the classroom. As a Polar Plunger, I advocate for them beyond it. I’m plunging to support Special Olympics Illinois because it creates spaces where individuals with intellectual disabilities are not defined by limitations, but by their courage, teamwork, and accomplishments.

My students deserve to feel seen, supported, and empowered not just at school, but in their communities. They deserve chances to build confidence, discover their strengths, and experience the joy of belonging. Special Olympics makes that possible, and I’m proud to support a mission that aligns so closely with what I believe in as an educator and as a human. Jumping into Lake Michigan may be cold, but it’s nothing compared to the bravery my students show every single day. I plunge for them; for their voices, their futures, and the belief that inclusion isn’t optional, it’s essential.
