Mason Moon's race to 4 paws!

Mason is a strong willed, fun loving, energetic 6 yr old boy. With an extreme curiosity to experience the world around him. When he was 5yr old he was diagnosed with Level 2 Autism, ADHD and Developmental Delay. In the summer of 2024 Mason was also diagnosed with epilepsy, after a brief hospital stay. With these diagnosis have come daily life struggles and safety concerns for Mason. He struggles with motor skills, communication, repetitive behaviors that include; flapping hands, picking his lips, eloping), as well being a fall risk from his seizures. Mason becoming overwhelmed and unable to express his emotions increases the odds of him having a aggressive outbursts. This is a life long situation for him that will continually come with obstacles/barriers. With a service dog it would be another tool to help him adapt and overcome those obstacles/barriers of living with Autism and Epilepsy. We are excited to announce Mason has been approved for a Autism/Seizure Response dog through 4 Paws for Ability.

4 Paws Service Dogs are trained in task specific to the individual child needs. Mason service dog will be trained in task that include seizure alert, seizure response to alert others of a incident and brace mason if he looses consciousness. Behavior disruption to help disrupt outbursts and meltdowns; and tethering to help keep Mason from wandering away in public spaces.

Autism/Seizure Response Dog would greatly help Mason achieve daily task and goals such as but not limited to:

  • Helping protect/brace his fall due to a seizure.
  • Provide comfort
  • Prevent wandering/eloping when out.
  • Provide deep pressure by laying on his lap when he is overstimulated or upset.
  • Assist with redirecting/interrupting potential outbursts from being over stimulated.
  • Providing a extra sense of security for his family by being aware of any seizure activity.
  • Assisting with transitions.
  • Teaches responsibility and accountability
  • Provides a social bridge leading to communication and making friends.

It cost 4 paws for Ability between $40,000-$60,000 to train and properly place each service dog. Their funding model is partial payment for services, this means they cover a portion of the cost and we as a family are responsible for a service fee of $20,000. We are asking for your help in our efforts to raise the money needed to provide our child with this opportunity of getting a service dog.

Training a service dog to meet our child’s requirements can be very costly. On average it costs between $40,000-60,000 to raise, train, and place a service dog at 4 Paws for Ability. While 4 Paws for Ability fundraises to help cover a significant portion of this cost, families are tasked with raising $20,000 of that amount or $23,000 if receiving a poodle, doodle or papillon. We hope that we can receive assistance from our beloved family and friends to help make our service dog dream a reality.
