Connor’s Story

Every child deserves to feel safe, understood, and confident as they move through the world. For my son Connor, that journey can sometimes be much harder than it should be.

Connor is a bright, loving little boy with a huge heart and an incredible spirit. Like many children with sensory and emotional regulation challenges, everyday situations that most people take for granted can feel overwhelming for him. Loud environments, unexpected changes, or even certain clothing textures can trigger anxiety and stress that are difficult for him to manage on his own.

Despite these challenges, Connor works incredibly hard every single day. He continues to show resilience, kindness, and determination while navigating a world that doesn’t always feel comfortable or predictable to him. Connor loves being active, spending time with his big brother Cameron, and finding moments of joy in the things that make him feel safe and understood.

Recently, Connor was given an incredible opportunity that has the potential to truly change his life — he was approved to receive a professionally trained service dog through 4 Paws for Ability.

A service dog will be much more than a companion. This highly trained partner will help Connor regulate his emotions, provide calming pressure during moments of anxiety, interrupt escalating behaviors, and give him a constant sense of safety and support. For Connor, a service dog will help him build confidence, participate more fully in school and activities, and gain independence as he grows.

Why Now

Being approved for a service dog is an incredible step forward, but it also begins the fundraising journey required to make this partnership possible. The total cost to raise, train, and place a service dog is $40,000, and our family is responsible for raising $20,000 of that amount.

This funding helps cover years of specialized training, veterinary care, placement preparation, and ongoing support to ensure the dog is perfectly matched to Connor’s needs.

Every donation — big or small — brings Connor one step closer to having a loyal partner who will walk beside him through life’s challenges and help him experience the world with greater confidence, calm, and independence.

If you are able to donate or share Connor’s story, our family is deeply grateful. Your support helps make something truly life-changing possible for Connor.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for supporting Connor and helping make this life-changing partnership possible.

Training a service dog to meet our child’s requirements can be very costly. On average it costs between $40,000-60,000 to raise, train, and place a service dog at 4 Paws for Ability. While 4 Paws for Ability fundraises to help cover a significant portion of this cost, families are tasked with raising $20,000 of that amount or $23,000 if receiving a poodle, doodle or papillon. We hope that we can receive assistance from our beloved family and friends to help make our service dog dream a reality.
