Help me raise funds to support Black immigrants!

Why I am running

I will attempt to run a 5K after being incredibly sedentary since March to raise funds for the Undocublack Network- a coalition that supports and organizes undocumented and formerly undocumented Black immigrants. I am also running to raise awareness of the experiences of this part of our community and acknowledge that they are often excluded from mainstream discussions around the rights of the undocumented community in the U.S.

Did you know that the deportation machine many of us fight to dismantle on a daily basis is particularly despicable to Black immigrants? A recent report by the NYU School of Law Immigrants Rights Clinc and the Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI) found that:

  • More than one out of every five noncitizens facing deportation on criminal grounds before the Executive Office for Immigration Review is Black.
  • Black immigrants are more likely to be detained for criminal convictions than the immigrant population overall.
  • Black immigrants in removal proceedings for a criminal conviction often have lived in the U.S. for a long time and established strong community ties; many are apprehended and placed in deportation proceedings long after the triggering criminal conviction occurred.
  • Black immigrants are much more likely than nationals from other regions to be deported due to a criminal conviction.

Of course, it should be no surprise that these findings can be directly traced to anti-Black racism that plague the carceral system in this country.

If you are able to, I encourage you to donate! If you cannot, please check out the information below and share this fundraiser with your friends!

In solidarity,

Andre
