1.     We will conduct monthly sampling to collect data on sharks off of Assateague Beach, VA. The data collected will include: species, sex, length, and weight (which can be used to estimate age). This data will be compiled to provide a detailed list of sharks that occur in this area and at what times of the year they are likely to be in the region.

2.     We will tag all sharks using pit tags provided by the National Marine Fisheries Service. This will be done as part of the Cooperative shark-tagging program. Any recapture sharks will be reported to NMFS.

3.     We will obtain additional data by contacting local charter boat captains and fishermen to obtain information and data on the sharks they are collecting as well as educate them on the NOAA/NMFS tagging program and better shark handling methods.
