The Barktoberfest event was created as a way to focus attention on the needs of homeless pets in the Pensacola region. Each year the event has grown and it has been embraced by the residents of our community as a valuable part of our local heritage.
The benefits of Pet ownership and the value of creating second chances for Shelter Pets is one of the primary messages of the Pensacola Humane Society. Pensacola is a Pet Friendly community and a visitor to our city quickly sees that dogs are a vital part of life. Throughout the year, dogs can be seen walking and running in downtown Pensacola with their owners enjoying the weather, the many dining options and our scenic views.
Now in its 17th year, the event has become a major fundraiser for the Pensacola Humane Society raising approximately $40,000 annually. More importantly, this event has also provided a vehicle for the other animal shelters to raise needed funds and to secure valuable volunteers for their own organization's. We expect over 10,000 people to take part in the event this year.
The Pensacola Humane Society is coming off one of its best year's ever. The organization accomplished 1,062 dog and cat adoptions and performed over 6,000 spay and neuter surgeries. Supporting this event helps fund the Pensacola Humane Society operation and increases public awareness of what the organization does. The Pensacola Humane Society thanks you for your support.
