On Sunday, October 13th, supporters of those affected by Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) will gather at Paper Mill Park for the annual Strides for CJD in memory of Patricia McLaughlin.

Strides for CJD enables families to pay tribute to loved ones, raise funds and awareness of this rare neurodegenerative disease that currently has no treatment or cure and is inevitably fatal.  CJD is caused by a protein known as a prion. Infectious prions are misfolded proteins that cause normal proteins to become misfolded with devastating effects, including rapid progressive dementia and physical deterioration.

Patricia McLaughlin passed away from the sporadic form of CJD on May 11, 2017.  In honor of Patricia and others, Strides for CJD is being held to support the national CJD Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) organization to raise funds and awareness, to provide family support, medical education, and research programs.
