The place where youth who need help find it.

Haven House programs help more than 2,000 youth aged 6-24 each year overcome their challenges and find a path to success. Our three areas of focus are youth homelessness, mental health, and juvenile diversion programs (helping youth find a more successful path and staying out of the court system).

Our Mission: To help youth be safe, supported, and successful.

Vision: All youth reach their full potential

Our Core Values:

  • Compassion: We care deeply. About the youth we serve, their families, and the community
  • Commitment: We are in it for the long haul. We don’t quit or give up just because we’re faced with challenges or adversity. We dig deeper and stay focused on our mission to strengthen youth.
  • Integrity: We stand on principles of honesty and transparency. We strive for justice and fairness. We seek to build trust with those we serve.
  • Respect: The youth and families we serve have inherent value and strengths. We honor them by treating them that way.
  • Accessibility: We strive to break down any barriers that limit youth and families’ access to Haven House and success.

Locations: Our main office is at 1008 Bullard Court in Raleigh, NC. This site houses most program staff, and our after-school fitness program. We also operate Wrenn House shelter located at 908 West Morgan St. in Raleigh, NC.

Cost of services: Nearly all of our services are provided free of charge to youth and families. Many of the families we work with are low-income or living in poverty. We do not want income to be a barrier to getting help for the youth we serve.

Over 50 years of Service

Our History

In 1972, Rev. Al Dimmock, a local pastor, was volunteering in juvenile court when the court faced the case of a young girl who couldn’t go home, wasn’t appropriate for training school, and had no other options. The case compelled him to create a place of refuge for young people in difficult circumstances. This place became Haven House Services in 1973.

Initially a group home for girls, a group home for boys followed in 1975. From there, a natural evolution of services began. The organization has continually expanded over the past 52 years to meet the ever-growing need in our community for programs and services for youth and young adults who are homeless, in crisis, or having difficulty at home, school or in the community.
