On Saturday, September 23rd I will take the 100 Wave Challenge and catch 100 waves in ONE DAY to raise $10,000 for a remarkable organization called Boys to Men Mentoring.
Boys to Men is a group mentoring program working with fatherless and high-risk teenage boys in 33 middle schools and high schools across San Diego county. BTM provides mentors to the boys in the program who often have no positive male role models – the men in their lives are in gangs, prison or have abandoned them in most cases. Sadly, nearly 80% of the boys in this program don’t have a father in their home.
I have personally sat in and experienced the mentoring program up close. I was blown away with the challenges these boys face, their personal stories, and the passionate mentors tasked with guiding them.
Last year I surfed in the challenge with my son Caden. We each surfed 101 waves and raised a combined $10,000. This year Caden is off at school so my goal is to raise the $10,000 by myself. I have already begun my training, and now I am focused on helping raise money and awareness for Boys to Men.
