Hello friends and family!! It's that time again... Walk N Roll! Each year the SBAK holds a fundraising walk to raise money and awareness for Families affected by Spina Bifida.
For those of you who don't know our story I will tell you briefly about my little hero. I found out we were going to have a child with Spina Bifida when I was 5 months pregnant with Cawood. Marty and I were beyond scared but we knew that our family had so much love to offer this little boy. A day after he was born he had a surgery to close the opening in his back. A week after that we were told he needed another surgery because there was too much fluid in his brain. It could have become life threatening so we went through with the surgery. Cawood had a VP shunt placed in the right ventricle of his brain. To this day, that same shunt remains intact and working, constantly draining fluid into his abdomen. We have so many friends whose children have undergone multiple surgeries for repairs on their shunts or for other things. It's heartbreaking when I hear of another child with Spina Bifida is going through another surgery. I remember all too well how that felt when Cawood was a week old. To this day my heart breaks for those other families. We have been unbelievably fortunate. Cawood is an 8 year old healthy boy who loves playing wheel chair basketball with the Jr. mustangs, playing baseball, going to school, playing video games and many more activities. When things get hard I just remember how bad things could actually be and I thank god for what he has given us. A child with a disability... but ultimately healthy. That's all that matters.
However, there are children not so fortunate. Donating to the SBAK helps brings funds and awareness to the families affected by this life long disease. It also helps families in need. Whether it's help with paying medical bills or paying for a new piece of life altering equipment that that child needs to be able to live. A walker, a wheelchair, and AFOs just to name a few. It's very comforting knowing that SBAK is there for so many families and that they are there for us if we ever need their support.
So please consider donating to the Spina Bifida Association of Kentucky. Help our team to raise money for these kids and families in need. I your support truly does make a big difference in these kids lives and it will make a difference in Cawood's life as well.
Come join our team, Cawood's Crew, for the WalkNRoll this year at Iroquois park in Louisville, Ky. Your support means the world to myself, Marty, and Cawood!
