I'm proud to be playing in my 25th Pine Tree Apple Tennis Classic. The time has gone by so quickly but what a journey it has been. So much progress has been made in fighting children's cancer since this event was started 33 years ago and has now raised over $5 million! The research and results produced from Pine Tree funds have been nothing short of remarkable including two cutting edge tumor registeries, the discovery of the DICER 1 gene which allows for preventative screening of a rare cancer called PPB and has a far reaching impact on other types of cancers, and multiple studies for improving the physical function of children who have gone through treatment so they can play sports, carry a backpack and just be normal kids.
I've been a player for all 25 years now having won 5 titles (3 Open and 2 Master's Division), volunteered on various committees through the years, and proud to be on the Board for the new 501c3 formed to sustain this unique tennis event and amazing cause until our mission is over. I have a new partner this year, Meghan Kimber, and will be going for my third Master's titles in a row...wish me luck!
Thank you for helping support children's cancer research and my personal fundraising goal of $7,500 this year. Any amount you can contribute makes a difference and is greatly appreciated.
