Running for a cure for Rett Syndrome
Our Story
I decided to run with the GP2C team in the 2019 Disney Princess Half Marathon. I'm not a runner, so, this is quite the goal for me!
I'm running for my daughter, Mia, who has Rett Syndrome. I want to support the GP2C organization and Rett research through fundraising for this event.
Mia is a big nine year old now. Hard to believe it was 7 years ago already when she received her diagnosis. Mia is a true angel – the sweetest girl - her smile lights up my day!
We are so lucky that we have amazing support through the Children's Hospital of Colorado's Rett Clinic along with the local Rocky Mountain Rett Association. Mia also has dedicated therapists and teachers who support her (and me) daily. Without all these wonderful people in our lives, Mia would not thrive like she does today.
My greatest hope is that someday the research into a cure for Rett Syndrome will find a way to reverse all her symptoms and make life easier for Mia – that her seizures will go away, she’ll be able to use her hands again, walking won’t be such a challenge and that she’ll have her voice finally to verbalize her thoughts, needs and wants.
