24 hours of running... don't worry, I'm not asking any of you to embark on this crazy adventure. However, I am reaching out to my friends and family to help raise money for a foundation that is very close to my heart. My Papa, Donald Bell, was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis...a diagnosis that changed his very active fulfilled life. You can read his story below:
I was diagnosed with IPF in April 2010 after experiencing shortness of breath when walking. I had always been an avid walker, completing 2-5 miles 3 or 4 times a week, but it suddenly became difficult and unenjoyable for me.
The diagnosis process was long and painful including many tests, visits to several doctors, and finally a lung biopsy which confirmed my pulmonary fibrosis diagnosis. I was immediately prescribed oxygen.
Since my diagnosis, I have continued to experience ups and downs as is common with this disease. I improved when in Arizona for the winter and even got to a point where I didn't need oxygen anymore. But, since 2016, I have been on oxygen full-time.
I am so blessed to have found support in the local Idaho Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group and have gained so much from sharing experiences with others who are going through this disease. My goals are to live as long as I can and continue to do as much as I can every day. I work with local and national organizations to help raise awareness about the disease and money for research to find a cure.
At this time there is no cure, there are drugs that can potentially slow the progress, but I am unable to tolerate them due to the side effects. I so appreciate all who work to help bring about a cure for IPF.
The Pulse 24 Hour Endurance Run is a 2.5 mile loop, my hope is to get pledges for every mile or every loop I run within the allotted 24 hour period. Please note that if you are unable to commit to a pledge amount, any donation is greatly appreciated!
