I'll be honest, if it is too cold outside I will take an Uber instead of walking. I will pay $6-8 so I don't have to be outside for 30 minutes. Then I think about the people who have no roof over their heads on days like that. People who have fallen on hard times and do not have a social safety net to catch them. People who are outside, bundled up as best as they can, just trying to survive the cold. The perspective of my privilege makes me feel awful but also awake.
No one should be homeless, anywhere, and least of all in a city like Boston. I wanted to help out my neighbors in need, so I coordinated my law firm to assemble a team to participate in this great event. To raise money to fight and end homeless, we will be spending one hour outdoors cycling in the cold. Just one hour. My challenge to you -- whatever it would be worth to you to avoid being in the cold for an hour, donate that amount.
