In 2006, the idea for the first ASFS 5K came to fruition through the efforts of Vince & Natalie McDonald, parents at the school at that time. Through their dedication, interest, and diligence, we were able to make this an annual event, one that has brought great participation and a lot of fun to our entire community.
We would like to take this opportunity to honor the 5K's "founding father", Vince McDonald, who recently passed away after a brief and sudden illness. As a community of family and friends, we are all saddened at his untimely passing -- but can think of no better way to honor our friend and champion than to continue the ASFS 5K and to dedicate this year's race in his memory.
Whether you are able to race this year or not, we ask that you make a donation to the CJD Foundation (Creutsfeltd-Jakob Disease) in Vince's honor. Every dollar, large or small, helps. CJD is an incurable, extremely rare brain disease which strikes its victims in their prime of life. As a community, we are committed to pledging what we can to help fight the disease that cut short the life of our race's founder & friend, Vince McDonald.
