I'm running with Brenda!
Brenda was born in Nairobi where she lived with her father and stepmother. Sadly, she was mistreated, and her mother brought Brenda to live with her in Nanyuki. Brenda loved that there were a lot of young people in the new village, but she hated that there was also a lot of drug use. After 8th grade, Brenda couldn’t afford more school, so she stayed home and tried to help her mother provide for the 2 younger children. After a year, Brenda was able to start high school at Daraja Academy. Brenda describes Daraja as a place that gives girls hope. She loves to read and wants to someday become a civil engineer. Her advice to girls is to never give up.
