I'm raising money for Mercy's education as she runs a 12k on the other side of the world. Any money we raise together goes directly to Daraja Academy in Kenya and Mercy's schooling. Thank you for your help! Or as they say in Kenya, ASANTE SANA!
Mercy is the 6th of 7 children. She lost her father in the post election violence in 2007, and the family became IDP’s (internally displaced people). Because of this, Mercy moved around a lot and changed schools many times. They finally settled in the village of Likii not far from Nanyuki, and Mercy’s mother earns a living selling sweets at the Dol Dol bus station. Because funds are so tight, four of Mercy’s older siblings couldn’t pay for secondary school. Fortunately, Mercy’s closest sister was given a scholarship through a local organization. Mercy repeated her 7th grade year so that her family would have 1 more year to figure out how she could continue her education as well. Thankfully, she found Daraja and demonstrated the leadership qualities and academic ability to secure her scholarship. She says that Daraja is a place to make dreams come true. Her favorite subject is social studies, and someday she wants to become a newscaster.
