Take a look at Camp Forget-Me-Not/Camp Erin DC!
Every child needs love, laughter, learning, and leisure—especially those who have recently experienced the death of a loved one. Camp Forget-Me-Not/Camp Erin DC is a weekend-long, free, sleep-away camp that gives children an opportunity to gently explore the normal process of grief. All Camp activities—swimming, arts and crafts, drumming, meditation, and much more—are specially designed to help campers express themselves and develop bonds with others. Camp provides a unique opportunity to explore grief in a safe setting where a child’s self-expression is heard, valued, and honored.
At Camp Forget-Me-Not/Camp Erin DC, campers are paired with an adult buddy like me for the weekend. Buddies are specially trained volunteers who serve as role models in the grief process and help provide companionship and support to campers. The individual attention Buddies provide campers is what makes Camp Forget-Me-Not/Camp Erin DC so special, along with Professional licensed therapists and counselors that lead several therapeutic group sessions designed to address the age-specific needs of grieving campers.
Camp Forget-Me-Not/Camp Erin DC Campers enjoy a weekend of both traditional and nontraditional camp activities such as swimming, canoeing, arts and crafts, games, campfires, crabbing, theatre, lectures on Kelsey's weird knowledge of obscure bugs, drumming and music, journaling and meditation, therapeutic art, drama, and the initiative and confidence course. My fellow Buddies and Campers sleep in air-conditioned cabins and eat together community style. All the activities are specially designed to help campers express themselves and develop bonds with others.
Importantly, Camp Forget-Me-Not/Camp Erin DC is provided free of charge to all Campers because of generous donors like you. I can't wait until my Camper arrives to be my Buddy-- join me in helping make sure they get there and donate today!
P.S. When you donate, you can dedicate your donation to a loved one you lost too early and/or that you wish you had help grieving for-- and I'll promise to honor them during our weekend at Camp.
